NYLD 2019

Today I attended the NYLD 2019 where student councils / leaders attend it from different places and schools. I got to see some familiar faces and some were new ones. I tried to get to know some people, but it was kind off hard because we had to stay in our seats. There were some students in the back were I started some conversations with.
We learnt many things and we got booklets which were very helpful and gave everyone there how to grow in becoming a student leader.

HAVE FUN -
Don't wait for other people to start having fun. Other people will have more fun if you decide to have fun.
BE A LEADER -
What this means is that you can show people how to behave by how you behave. That's what being a leader is.
LISTEN UP -
Leading others often start with listening to others. Make sure you listen up today so you don't miss out on being inspired and entertained by some incredible korero.
DON'T STEAL STUFF -
Stealing is bad but only when... nah - never steal.
There were  seven speakers and host, there was suppose to be eight but one couldn't make it. They host and speakers were:
- Ronnie Taulafo
- Christian Gallen
- Dr Lehan Stemmet
- Kings
Liz Alexander
- Hana Tapiata
-Phil Baker
These are my three favourite speakers.
Ronnie who was the host for what now and came from the island of Samoa. he old us about his life journey from being born in Samoa to going to Australia and then going back to Samoa and having to learn the proper language of Samoa.

Dr Lehan Stemmet is an amazing person because now he is one of my role models. He was a high achieving student at his school and had so many badges, that he had to get a second jacket and he is inspiring and hopefully someday you will meet him.

Christian Gallen is the funniest person I've meet and he would non stop talking with excitement on stage. He may have been sweating but he carried and from that I knew he had a strong and energized personality. He taught us that good student leaders are good at having conversations and talking and being able to be confident with who they talk with, but he also taught us that leaders are also good at listening and letting others share what's on there mind and see if there are anything we can help with.

My highlight of the day was seeing Kings perform, which was an amazing experience and I never thought I would ever have that experience and hopefully I have much more experiences like that.
