The Desert Kaupoi is about a brave soldier who represented the Maori people in the wars. The Man was John Piuraki Tikao-Barrett. He was apart of signing the treaty of Waitangi in 1840 and had joined the army on behalf of New Zealand. The New Zealands were apart of the Allies and the Allies were the countries that got together to fight the german because of the Nazzi Party that was lead from Adolph Hitler.

The dessert of Kaupoi is written by a woman named Ariana Tikao. Ariana wrote this book and the book is about her ancestor John who volunteered to be in the New Zealand army and in the Maori battalion. When John was at war he had a friend called McDonald and he said he wouldn't forget the brave action that his friend McDonald did at the War, When they were at war with the other people, he remembered being about a yard away from McDonald and the machine gun from the other troop shot and shot McDonalds arm right off and then McDonald took his arm of the ground and through it at the machine gun and I think if my arm got shot off I wouldn't be able to trough it away.
